Artist statement
When I create a form, I start with a flat piece of clay and build it up until it is voluptuous and generous in shape. The form evolves, it changes shape and expands to reveal what is hidden, until it becomes what it wants to be.
During the making process, I think of water and how it flows, I imagine how light, shade and movement will affect the way the form appears. As with everything, what you see depends on your perspective, and so it is with the forms I create. I am interested in the notion that you have to go beyond a first glance, look at something from many different angles to gain a deeper understanding of its full potential.
