A bit about me
My background
I came to ceramics later in life but I have always had an affinity with craft and as my work life eased, I pursued my long-time interest in ceramics.
I have been studying pottery at the School of Clay and Art (SoCA) here in Melbourne, Australia for the last few years. It provides me with direction and a place to learn, and develop my technical skills and with a focus on art and design.
My Medium
There's no better feeling than getting your hands dirty with clay.
I use a variety of clays, slips, oxides and glazes to create my pieces. My ceramics pieces are mostly hand built, but I have been known to get on the wheel and throw a pot now and then.
My Inspiration
My current ceramics work is influenced by the textures of earth. I am interested in how it dries and cracks in the heat and shrinks away creating random patterns, and I am inspired to create faults and fractures as texture on my work that reflect the nature of the earth and the people who inhabit it.
My aim is to trigger a memory or experience in the viewer of a time or place that they connect to, specifically relating to our unique Australian landscape.
